The day after: here are the innovations that emerged from yesterday’s Apple Keynote.
We had predicted that the stage would be used by the CEO to express his position on the dispute with the FBI to the world, and so it was: after an initial presentation to review the company’s 40-year history and celebrate its first billion users, Tim Cook addressed the privacy issue.
The event continued with a presentation on the company’s commitment to renewable energy, highlighting how, thanks to the collaboration of all users, components of old smartphones can be repurposed.
Finally, they got to the technological innovations:
# App
The first innovation presented was a new app, CareKit, which will attempt to replace postoperative documents given to patients. The interface will be simple, and the functions will allow patients to follow their therapy from home and share progress data.
# Apple Watch
Since fashion is far from marginal in people’s lives, new bands for the Apple Watch were presented, and a price cut was announced, making it available starting at $299.
# Apple TV
A constantly growing but already very mature platform, thanks especially to the operating system, tvOS: Cook once again demonstrated Siri’s capabilities.
# iPhone
Then came what was probably the most anticipated announcement: the presentation of the new iPhone SE. Sales of the 6 and 6s have been very good, but the previous generation also continued to sell in significant volumes; for this reason, explains Tim Cook, it would have been foolish not to tap into that segment of potential customers.
The iPhone SE is compact, easy to handle, and, thanks to the special satin finish of the aluminum body, also pleasant to the touch. Specifically:
- Design: The new model features details such as matte chamfered edges and a stainless steel logo that matches the dominant color of the smartphone’s body. It will be available in four colors: space gray, rose gold, silver, and gold.
- Processore: It looks like a 5s but has the heart and power of a 6s, with an Apple A9 processor and integrated M9 coprocessor, which controls a series of physical activities and can activate Siri even with the screen off.
- Fotocamera: The camera is 12 megapixels, with Focus Pixel, true tone flash, dual pixel focus, and includes the live photo feature.
- Prezzo: The 16GB iPhone SE will be priced at €509, while the 64GB version will be €609.
The device will be available for pre-order from March 29 in Italy and will arrive in 110 countries by the end of May.
# Operating System
The now downloadable version, iOS 9.3, will include Nightshift, which can change the lighting and color of the display based on the ambient light. Thanks to this update, notes will be protected by password or Touch ID, and apps like Health, News, and CarPlay will be improved.
# iPad
The concept is the same as the new iPhone; the size is that of the predecessors of the iPad Pro, but the heart is the same. The name hasn’t changed either.
In addition to the 9.7-inch size and more advanced software, the display’s reflectivity, reduced by 40%, will allow for better text readability, and the maximum brightness will be the highest in its category. Thanks to a technology called True Tone built into the display, the light sensors will be able to understand the tone of the ambient light, automatically adjusting the display in the most optimal way. Additionally, the camera will be 12 megapixels, and it will be possible to shoot 4K videos.
That’s all folks! See you at the next keynote!
