The world of fitness is becoming increasingly trendy thanks to the development of various apps that, in addition to monitoring workouts, have the ability to motivate athletes through voice recordings sent by friends.
Today, glasses step in to motivate us as a virtual coach… Google Glass? No, they are Radar Pace, the new smart glasses designed for runners and cyclists.
Presented in Las Vegas during CES 2016, the Radar Pace project aims to make sports training efficient, thanks to the numerous features of these smart glasses. It may seem like a futuristic achievement, but they could soon become part of our lives thanks to a collaboration between Luxottica and Intel. Born in the Californian laboratories of Oakley, a famous brand dedicated to sports and lifestyle by Luxottica, together with the work of Intel engineers.
How do they work?
They are real glasses equipped with intelligence, capable of providing the necessary information to a person who is training. Just wear them and command them vocally.
Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel, presented these glasses during his keynote at the most important innovation conference. Krzanich showed the audience a demo where Craig Alexander, three-time Ironman Hawaii world champion, asked the smart glasses some questions through an earpiece on the frame: “What is my training program today?”, “What is my average pace?”. The device is capable of producing answers that, over time, can become personalized, thanks to the sensors it is equipped with and the data processing that will be done with the collected data.
You heard right: Radar Pace can learn, memorizing the training and getting closer to the real role of a coach. Additionally, it is likely that Intel Curie, Intel’s microcomputer equipped with a processor, accelerometer, and Bluetooth, could be integrated into the glasses.
Most likely, the final Radar Pace glasses will retain the sporty look of some Oakleys. The price and release date are not yet known, but it is assumed they could enter the market in the second half of 2016.
Get ready to sweat, Radar Pace means business!
