After 8 comes 10.
We are certainly not talking about mathematics, but rather the name chosen by Microsoft for the new operating system, which skips a number and goes directly to Windows 10.
“One product family, one platform, one store”
is the slogan with which Microsoft presented Windows 10, which will cover a family of products with heterogeneous characteristics through new features, a renewed interface, and a single digital store containing all applications.
After abandoning the idea of calling the new operating system Windows One, a name that could emphasize the union of all the company’s products but was already used for the Xbox, Microsoft decided on Windows 10. Why?
The most popular hypotheses are that 10 would be a way not to give continuity to version 8, which was widely criticized, or to connect, through the corresponding Roman numeral X, the Windows platform to that of Microsoft Xbox One games.
The new operating system is intuitive, easy to use, and ideal for those nostalgic for Windows 7, which it is inspired by in many aspects; here are all the major updates:
# Start Menu
The start menu button allows you to choose between a traditional view of the menu, typical of Windows 7, and a more innovative one, with apps accessible through live tiles.
# Task View
The new Task View button allows you to simultaneously view all open apps and files, quickly switch between elements, and access created desktops with a single touch; goodbye to numerous overlapping files on a single desktop, now you can create separate desktops for different projects or purposes and easily switch from one to another.
# App
At the latest Build 2015 conference, Microsoft announced to developers the possibility of bringing apps developed for Android and iOS platforms to Windows 10, through a free SDK (software development kit), which will allow them not to have to recreate them from scratch.
# Cortana
Already introduced for Windows Phone, Cortana, the highly efficient personal assistant, is one of the main new features of Windows 10, available to organize commitments, find files, and search the PC.
# Goodbye Explorer
After 20 years of service, Microsoft’s browser gives way to Edge, the new navigation program that offers better experiences and is more suitable for the touch screens of tablets and smartphones.
# Versioni scaricabili
Windows 10 will be available in 7 versions: Home, Mobile, Pro, Enterprise, Education, Mobile Enterprise, and, for the first time, an IoT (Internet of Things) Core version. While the PC version was released at the end of July, the versions for smartphones and tablets will be released this fall.
The upgrade of Windows 10 Home and Pro on Windows 7, 8, and Windows Phone 8.1 systems is free if done within a year.
Fast startup and resume times and increased integrated security to ensure high levels of protection are among the countless improvements made, with which Microsoft has announced its goal of reaching one billion Windows 10 devices within 2 or 3 years.
