Every day we are amazed by the leaps in technology. Among the latest news is Amazon, which has started the process for the “pay by selfie” patent.
What is it about? After the “buy with one click” system, the e-commerce giant has thought of an even faster and safer way for payments: paying with a selfie!
It will be possible to make purchases using selfies or videos of yourself instead of the old password. This way, online shopping should be even more secure. Additionally, in the documents filed by Amazon for the patent application, there is an interesting reference to social interaction: entering a password may require the user to step away from friends or colleagues to type it, “which can be embarrassing in many situations.”
We can only wonder if stopping to take a selfie might also be embarrassing, but we’re already used to that!
Specifically, pay by selfie requires the phone or computer to ask the user to perform certain gestures and actions, such as winking, smiling, or tilting their head, to ensure that the person making the payment is indeed the legitimate buyer and not someone else holding a photo of the person.
The idea is not entirely new: last year, Jack Ma, the president of Alibaba, demonstrated a similar technology, and Mastercard is also exploring a photo-based payment solution. On the topic of security and to solve the dilemma of many passwords to remember, the giants of the Internet and international markets are trying to answer two major questions of the information economy: how to protect user-generated data and how to gain their trust.
Pay by selfie seems to be an excellent solution!
