Why are the contents Facebook suggests increasingly tailored to us?
The content that Facebook shows us is becoming more personalized because each update incorporates small changes that allow likes and interactions to highlight our interests. Here are the factors on which the latest algorithm update is based.
The latest update further modifies the News Feed algorithm, adding new parameters to suggest more engaging content that aligns with our passions and tastes.
Every day, through the Feed Quality Program, thousands of people worldwide provide feedback on potential improvements for the social media platform. Based on this feedback, a new factor has been introduced into the algorithm’s consideration: time.
How? A new calculation element introduced by Facebook predicts how much time each user will spend reading an article, whether it comes from a browser or instant articles.
After accounting for the article’s length and subtracting loading time, the algorithm considers the reading time to determine if the content is of interest to the user, suggesting similar content accordingly.
Among the new features regarding the Facebook update, the company, on the dedicated page, announces the introduction of a greater variety of sources to avoid showing an excessive number of contents from the same author. At the end of the description of the updates made, the company answers a question that might arise spontaneously: ‘Will This Impact My Page?’, reassuring admins with ‘most Pages won’t see any significant changes.
